What OpenEvidence launched

Over 85% of oncologists at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center use OpenEvidence. Together, @MSKCancerCenter and OpenEvidence have built OncoKB, MSK’s expert interpretation of a tumor’s genetics, directly into OpenEvidence, putting it in the hands of oncologists across the https://t.co/4uJFm4qL9k

About the launch
OpenEvidence is a medical AI platform that verified U. S. clinicians use to get citation-backed answers from peer-reviewed sources, including The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Nature, Cochrane, and NCCN treatment guidelines. It is free for those clinicians. This launch adds Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's OncoKB knowledge base, so an oncologist outside MSK can see the cancer center's interpretation of a tumor's genetics in the same workflow used to check the literature. OncoKB records, for each curated genetic alteration, whether it is oncogenic, how strong the clinical evidence is, and which therapies are associated with it. MSK experts build those annotations from FDA oncology drug labels, professional guidelines, and the scientific literature. In October 2021, OncoKB became the first somatic cancer variant knowledge base to receive partial recognition from the FDA, and MSK says it remains the only one. Inside OpenEvidence, a clinician asking about a specific alteration sees that assessment next to literature-grounded answers and patient context. The same partnership also places OpenEvidence inside MSK's Epic workflow. The integration matters because cancer treatment increasingly depends on the molecular details of a tumor, not only the cancer type. Debyani Chakravarty, lead scientist of OncoKB at MSK, told Forbes there are 263 FDA-approved oncology therapies, nearly half of which require biomarker testing to determine whether a patient should receive the drug. MSK reports that more than half of U. S. hematologist-oncologists already use OpenEvidence for complex oncology questions. Moving OncoKB into that workflow means a physician far from the cancer center can use the same curated genomic interpretation MSK applies to its own patients, without a separate lookup.
