We pulled every launch in our Global Launch Directory and checked what actually lines up with a million views. Short answer: distribution, not followers.
Founders ask me the same question every week: what does it take to get a million views? This time I answered it with data instead of gut feel.
The directory tracks 1,172 X launches as of October 2026: views, engagement, follower counts, video length, launch day and our own ratings. Here's what we found:
- 23.6% of launches crossed 1M views. The median got 237K.
- Distribution scored 5/5: 80% hit 1M. Scored 1/5: 2%.
- 44% of 1M+ launches came from accounts under 10K followers.
- Tuesday and Wednesday had the highest median views. Weekends: 35K.
- Videos of 60s+ hit 1M 27% of the time. 30–60s: 13%.
How rare is a 1M-view launch on X?
Rarer than your timeline suggests. 23.6% crossed 1M, 4.9% crossed 5M and 2.7% crossed 10M. The median launch got 236,686 views.
It's very top-heavy. The 277 launches with 1M+ hold 88% of the directory's 1.62B views. The top 10 alone hold 29%.
So planning for "a million views" means planning to beat three out of four launches, most of them from funded teams with real products.
Which factor predicted 1M views best?
Distribution. Our distribution-strategy score tracked views more closely than anything else we measured (Spearman ρ = 0.68). 80% of launches scored 5/5 crossed 1M, against 45% at 4/5, 14% at 3/5 and 2% at 1/5.
The score covers what happened around the post: who reshared and quoted it, whether creators posted in a coordinated wave, and whether the founder, team and investors amplified on cue. Median views at 5/5 were 2.2M. At 1/5, 33K.
One caveat. We assign these ratings after a launch goes live, so performance can colour them. Read it as strong correlation, not proof. But 2% versus 80% is too big a gap to ignore, and it matches every launch we run.
Sentiment (ρ = 0.47) came second: 56% of 5/5 launches hit 1M, against 6% at 1/5. Hook, editing and copy each landed around ρ = 0.31–0.33. The creative matters, but less than what happens after you hit post. More on that in the science behind every viral launch video on X.
Do you need a big following to hit 1M views?
No. Accounts with 1M+ followers hit 1M views 55% of the time, and accounts under 1K hit it 8% of the time. But 99 of the 223 1M+ launches with a known follower count (44%) came from accounts under 10K.
Followers correlated only moderately with views (ρ = 0.30). The better number is views divided by followers. The median launch reached 37× its author's following. The median 1M+ launch reached 208×.
For small accounts, distribution is the whole game. Under 10K followers with a distribution score of 4–5: 49% hit 1M (115 launches). Same accounts at 3 or below: 6% (327 launches).
Our own launches look the same. Enrich Labs launched from about 4,900 followers and reached 3.68M views. The median TLVC launch account has 4,924 followers.
What is the best day and time to launch on X?
Tuesday or Wednesday morning, Pacific time. Wednesday launches had a median of 284K views and Tuesday 272K. Those two days carry 49% of all launches.
The honest version: Monday to Friday all hit 1M at 21–27%. The real gap is weekday versus weekend. The 52 weekend launches had a median of 35K.
We read posting time from each post's X status ID. 81% went out between 6am and noon PT. 6–9am had the highest median (280K), and 9am–noon had the best 1M+ rate (25%).
How long should a launch video be?
Longer than you'd think. Videos of 60 seconds or more hit 1M 27% of the time (445 launches). Under 60 seconds: 16%. The 30–60 second range was the worst at 13%.
The median 1M+ video ran 85 seconds, against 67 for the rest. Length alone is a weak signal (ρ = 0.15), but 60–120 seconds gives you room for a hook, a demo and a reason to care. Specs and pacing are in our 2026 X launch video strategy guide.
Which categories and stages hit 1M most often?
Among groups with at least 15 launches:
- Category: Hardware 36%, AI & ML 25%, SaaS 17%, Fintech 14%, Dev tools 14%.
- Stage: Public 41%, Series C+ 30%, Series B 28%, Series A 24%, Seed 20%, Pre-launch 15%.
- Audience: B2C 33%, B2B 22%.
- Format: Cinematic 28%, Founder-led 25%, Demo 24%, Explainer 22%, AI-generated 19%.
A seed-stage B2B dev tool starts behind on base rates. That's where distribution has to do the work. For creative options, see the launch video formats that actually work.
What didn't predict a 1M-view launch?
- Engagement rate ran backwards. 1M+ launches got 12.1 likes per 10K views. The rest got 43.2. Big reach pulls in casual viewers, so a high rate on a small launch isn't a sign it's about to break out.
- Launch type. Product (24.5%), funding (24.2%), GA (22.7%) and feature launches (22.5%) all hit 1M at about the same rate.
- AI agent vs vertical AI. 22% vs 24%.
- Monday vs Friday. 22% vs 26%, within noise.
- The YC account. 32 YC launches hit 1M only 9% of the time, with a median of 59K.

The 10 most-viewed launches in the directory. Orchid and Sabi (highlighted) came from accounts with about 10K followers.
7 of the 10 are AI launches, mostly from huge brands. Two aren't: Orchid reached 27.2M views from 12.1K followers (2,245×), and Sabi's $50M raise reached 25.4M from 9.9K followers. Sabi was a TLVC launch.
What do our own 1M+ launches have in common?
We ran 25 launches in the directory. Their median was 3.68M views and 80% crossed 1M, against 22% for everyone else. Most came from small accounts. I'm biased and we pick launches we believe in, so treat these as patterns, not an experiment.
| Launch | Views | What it did |
|---|---|---|
| Enrich Labs | 3.7M | Monday morning launch: 9,000 demos booked. Case study |
| Mave Health | 1.8M | Six figures of a $500 brain headset in pre-orders. Case study |
| AgentCloak | 2.3M | 3,000 real users for a browser extension. Case study |
| Merge | 3.7M | LLM router launch: 3.67M views (all posts, per case study). Case study |
| HydraDB | 3.7M | 2M views in under 2 hours, planned in 5 days. Case study |
What they share:
- Distribution is planned before the video is done. Creators, quote posts and the founder's network are lined up for the first hour. (HydraDB, Merge)
- Copy is written for the buyer, not for reach. (Mave)
- Views turn into a next step. 9,000 demos, 3,000 users, 100 enterprise demos. (Enrich Labs, AgentCloak, YC case study)
What couldn't we measure?
- Paid promotion. We can't see X ad boosts.
- How many creators reposted or quoted. The distribution score is our closest proxy.
- Follower count at posting time. We see it at collection.
- Watch time and completion rate. X doesn't publish them.
- Signups, demos and revenue, outside our own case studies.
- Coverage: video length exists for 736 launches, followers for 923 and ratings for 1,021.
- Survivorship: the directory tracks notable launches, so the true 1M+ rate across all of X is lower than 23.6%.
How we gathered this data
We collected all 1,172 launch pages in the Global Launch Directory on October 29, 2026, covering launches from March 30 to October 27, 2026. For each one we recorded views, likes, reposts, replies, bookmarks, author followers, video length, launch date, category, directory tags and TLVC's ratings (hook, editing, copy, sentiment and distribution, each out of 5).
Posting hour comes from the X status ID, which matched the recorded launch date 96% of the time. "1M+" means 1,000,000 or more views on the single launch post. We used medians because views are heavily skewed, Spearman correlations for strength, and only groups of 15+ launches unless noted. All of it is correlation, not causation.
If you want the short version: plan distribution first, launch on a weekday morning, cut 60–120 seconds, and don't worry about your follower count.
