About the launch

Devin Oncall is Cognition's product for engineering teams that want an agent on production alerts and bug reports as soon as they arrive. It connects to tools such as Datadog, Sentry, and Dynatrace, then uses telemetry, code, deployments, runbooks, and past incidents to investigate. It groups repeated alerts into one issue, looks for a root cause, recommends a mitigation, and can open a pull request so an engineer reviews a proposed fix. Cognition is making it generally available after the product has already been handling thousands of alerts a day at large customers. The company reports that at AngelList, Devin identified root causes 3.5 times more often than an internal investigation harness and handled half of incidents end to end on its own, after which AngelList retired that harness. At Reducto, Devin takes most engineering alerts first and often remediates medium-severity issues, or opens and tests a pull request, before an engineer is paged. Cognition, founded by Scott Wu, Steven Hao, and Walden Yan, builds Devin as an agent that takes a software task from a plain-language request through a plan, code changes, tests, and a pull request. Oncall points that same agent at live systems. Responders watch alert and support streams, an incidents mode joins the Slack channel a team opens for an outage and keeps a running report, and a reports view flags recurring failures and alert settings worth tuning.
