Cline is an open source coding agent used by developers inside IDEs, terminals, and now a standalone desktop app, with this launch spotlighting a new plugin called jev-browser that gives the agent its own browser to work in. Installed through the desktop app's Marketplace under Customize, Plugins, the plugin hands Cline an isolated Playwright Chromium browser through normal Cline tools and delegates bounded browser goals to Jev through Vercel AI Gateway, with automatic before/after screenshots and optional manual actions . Setup requires generating a Vercel AI Gateway API key and saving it into the plugin configuration. The technical split is what makes this interesting for anyone building agentic workflows. Jev uses DOM observations for its action loop, while Cline receives screenshots to independently verify the outcome , so the reasoning model that drives the clicks never has to interpret pixels and the supervising agent still gets a visual audit trail. The main entrypoint, jev_run, takes a URL and a goal, then executes bounded actions against a snapshot of visible DOM targets, which keeps browser use predictable enough to slot into longer coding tasks. Cline itself was founded by Saoud Rizwan and positions the product as an open-source AI coding agent that automates software creation tasks within integrated development environments . The jev-browser plugin matters right now because it is one of the first third-party entries shipping through Cline's new desktop Marketplace, and it shows how the plugin surface can add whole new tool categories (in this case, a fully isolated browser powered by a different model provider) without changes to the core agent.

Giving an agent a browser is either genius or the beginning of a very expensive Chrome tab problem. Watching to see which.

What are the rate limits on the gateway key, and does the plugin respect retries with backoff? Asking because my last agent burned through creds in an afternoon.

Before I pipe this to my eng org: SSO, audit logs, and where does the browser session data live? Procurement will ask, so I'm asking.

The install path reads like a scavenger hunt. Customize > Marketplace > Plugins > search, four clicks before I even meet Jev.

Every browser given to an agent is a small act of trust in a world that has not earned it.

Blown away by the results but the tweet has zero clips of said results. Bold strategy.

Tagline suggestion, free of charge: 'Cline: your agent finally has eyes.' You can venmo me later.

Coding agent market is way more crowded than founders admit. Half these tools will be sherlocked by the IDE incumbents by winter.

Open source coding agents have a retention story I have not seen anyone win yet. Interesting though.

Reminds me of what Browserbase and Multi were doing before pivots. Curious if Cline plans to own the runtime or stay pluggable.

One more thing for the roadmap: let Jev record its browser session and replay steps as a reusable workflow. You are welcome.

If anyone on the Cline team is hiring plugin ecosystem PMs, I know a very good one who just left a devtools co.

No launch video? For an agent that literally SEES the web, you left a lot of visual bait on the table.

Been building something similar for 3 weeks, was going to ship next Tuesday. Guess I'm shipping Monday now.

Curious about the impression-to-install ratio on these plugin marketplace launches. Marketplace discovery is usually where the funnel dies.
