James AI is a hire-by-the-job AI worker aimed at small and mid-size business owners who want operational help without adding headcount. James is an AI employee for small and mid-size businesses, with his own computer, email and phone , and he plugs into the software a company already runs, from CRMs and inboxes to QuickBooks. Founder Cole Le, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, previously studied CS and Economics at the University of Florida before starting the company. Hiring starts with about a 5-minute conversation, out loud or typed, where he asks about the job the way a good operator would , then returns a written plan covering the tools he will use, the checkpoints where he will pause for approval, and the monthly price. Pricing starts at $500 a month for each job after 7 free days, worked out on the call from what the job takes . The launch card advertises common roles like executive assistant, customer support rep, bookkeeper, and operations assistant, alongside more involved work like a marketing manager or a sales development rep that builds lists, writes in the founder's voice, follows up, books meetings, and logs activity in the CRM . The interaction model is deliberately lightweight. Owners text James on iMessage, WhatsApp, or the web, and open a James page to see what he is doing, what he needs from them, and the billing . He is scoped to check in before consequential actions, including spending money, sending to a new list, signing anything, refunds, and deleting anything that cannot be restored . The launch matters now because delegating discrete back-office jobs to a persistent agent with its own inbox and workstation is where computer-use models are finally becoming usable in production, and James is packaging that capability as a fixed monthly hire rather than a per-token tool.

Naming him James feels like a bit. Does he also refuse to make coffee and email 'per my last message' at 11pm?

'Finds the next job before you ask' is doing a LOT of heavy lifting in this tweet. What does James actually pick up on, calendar signals, inbox patterns, vibes?

The launch video opens with a talking head for 8 seconds before anything happens. You're bleeding half the scroll audience before James even says hi.

ok wait, the second video actually shows him doing a workflow end to end and that's more than 90% of agent launches manage. tweet copy is underselling this hard.

hot take: giving the agent its own virtual computer and email is the only interesting agent design shipping right now. everything else is a langchain wrapper cosplaying as a coworker.

Curious what retention looks like past the 1-week trial. Autonomous agents demo like magic and churn like gym memberships.

Is this demo recorded or live? Every 'AI employee' launch I've clicked into this year has one suspiciously well-timed cursor movement.

Any public docs yet? I want to see how James handles tool auth before I trust him with my inbox and my dignity.

Pricing page says 'contact us' which is CFO speak for 'we haven't decided.' Per-seat, per-task, or per-panic-attack?

Been watching this team quietly for months. James has that 'we'll deny we ever pivoted' energy and I'm here for it.
