Why it worked

Austin Sensing Company (ASC) builds a full-stack airspace sensing platform for counter-drone and air surveillance missions, aimed at public safety agencies and military units that need to detect everything from FPV drones to manned aircraft. The company is headed up by CEO Tucker Dordevic, who previously worked in aerospace and defense banking, and co-founder Duke, an engineer who came from fellow Austin defense startup Saronic. This launch marks the company's emergence from stealth alongside an $11 million seed round led by Bow Capital, with Bling Capital, Draper Associates, mark vc, GTMfund, and Ensemble VC participating, bringing total funding to $15 million. The product line fuses multiple sensor modalities under one stack. The first shipping product is RF AS, a tripod-mounted RF detection system that covers 28 square miles per unit and, according to the team, picks up everything from manned aircraft at 40,000 feet down to FPV drones while also localizing the operator. In development are Acoustic AS, which uses AI-powered acoustic classification across a 360-degree field, Radar AS, a compact radar tracking aircraft out to 3 km, and Tower AS, which bundles the modalities into a single deployable unit for networked tracking. An in-house C2 interface called Operator AS ties it together, and the team built its own software stack to avoid third-party integration limits while remaining compatible with platforms like Anduril's Lattice and Palantir's Maven. The launch matters now because ASC is already in the field rather than pitching a roadmap. The RF detector is deployed with more than 40 police and fire departments across Florida, California, Oregon, and New York, along with a handful of military units. The company deliberately started with local law enforcement to move faster than defense procurement allows and to build a B2B SaaS style go-to-market before expanding to military customers, and it is now ramping production in a new 20,000-square-foot factory in Austin as it moves into a crowded counter-drone sensing market that includes CHAOS Industries, Fortem, Hidden Level, and Echodyne.
