About the launch
Ardent is setting out to build a flying car a household could own and use in place of a car. Founder Kip Mock announced the company on October 16, 2026. He had closed out his time at nuclear startup Valar Atomics about a month earlier. In the launch video he treats the flying car as the most familiar unkept promise of the 1950s and 1960s. He says the company is competing with cars, and he puts helicopters and existing eVTOL aircraft in a separate category. The company is based in Moscow, Idaho. flyardent.com still says coming soon, and in the launch video Mock said the team was a couple of weeks away from going public on how the vehicle would be built. In the same announcement he wrote that the flying car has become a symbol of stalled progress in mobility since the Industrial Revolution, and he pointed people to @flyardent to follow the build. No specifications, price, or schedule have been published. Mock's recent work was heavy industry. At Valar he negotiated a public-private partnership in the Philippines and took the San Rafael site from bare ground to a completed reactor building and essential infrastructure in six months. Years earlier, while living in Moscow, he and Valar founder Isaiah Taylor started an auto shop. Ardent puts that record on a consumer vehicle whose design has not been released.
