GPT-6 Astra is OpenAI's newest flagship model, built around "computer use," in which the model aims to navigate a computer as a human would. The launch is aimed at founders, operators, and enterprise teams who want an agent that can drive real desktop and browser software rather than call a purpose-built API, and it matters now because OpenAI's launch materials call it "the world's best computer use model," designed to navigate software much as a person does, working across browsers, spreadsheets, websites and desktop applications . The launch video demos this end to end, chaining a Blender 3D model, an eBay listing, a retail pitch deck, a licensing agreement redline, a food delivery order, and a tennis court booking in a single session.
On the benchmark side, OpenAI reports that on the OSWorld V2-Offline benchmark, which tests work across desktop applications, Astra scored 72.6%, up from 65.7% for GPT-5.6 Sol, and cut the average time per task from about 75 minutes to 40 . On ARC-AGI-3, a benchmark meant to test a model's ability to apply reasoning to situations it has not encountered before, Astra scored 98.6%, whereas GPT-5.6 Sol had scored 7.8% . In demos, OpenAI showed Astra laying out a printed circuit board in KiCad, building a 3D city scene in Unity, creating an animated automobile transmission in FreeCAD and Blender, and filling out a tax-return draft from a W-2 , which lines up with the video's Blender and STL export moments.
Rollout is phased. OpenAI says GPT-6 Astra is rolling out today to a limited set of organizations and over the coming days will become more broadly available, with availability across ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, the OpenAI API, and Amazon Web Services . Company president Greg Brockman is framing the release as a step change, with Brockman calling it a "generational leap" and saying it could eventually be seen as the arrival of artificial general intelligence , a claim worth weighing against the reality that Astra is still an assistive agent operating inside existing software rather than a replacement for the humans supervising it.

Astra is a great name until every AI startup in my inbox pivots to calling their agent Astra by Friday. Calling it now.

The cut where the cursor moves faster than the voiceover is doing all the heavy lifting in this video. Whoever edited this earned their week.

First 4 seconds are a black screen with the product name. Bold retention choice for a company that doesn't need retention.

'Anything you can do on a computer, Astra can do for you. Fast.' Try: 'Your computer, on autopilot.' You're welcome.

Cool demo. Now do it with the inference bill visible in the corner.

The unit economics question for a foundation model lab is genuinely funny to me. It's like asking a volcano about its burn rate.

Every 'anything you can do on a computer' demo is pre-recorded until I can paste my own prompt in. Waiting on that access page.

The gap between what a model can do and what a model will reliably do is where entire companies live.

Building an adjacent agent product and honestly the naming pressure just got real. Back to the whiteboard for us.

An agent that can do anything on a computer is one wallet plugin away from being the greatest onchain executor ever shipped. Someone's already forking this in a Discord.

Genuinely curious how much of this is going to have a real SDK versus a waitlist form and a Notion doc. Docs are the demo.
