About the launch
PhoneUse leases phones to AI agents and exposes them through an MCP server, an API, or a CLI, so an agent can open native apps, read the screen, tap and type, and pull SMS. It is built for teams whose agents already run in Claude, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf, or custom code, and who keep hitting tasks that only exist inside a phone. Most of those apps still have no API. Uber, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, and a long list of legacy apps are closed to browser agents as well. The launch sits on a control plane with two device types and the same tool calls on both. Cloud Androids boot in about four seconds and are aimed at parallel runs, evals, and QA. Real iPhones and Androids are unmodified retail hardware in a San Francisco rack, with a carrier SIM, a physical stylus on the glass, and an overhead camera reading the screen, so flows that fail emulator integrity checks or need a real text message can move to a real device by changing the device name. At launch the site listed 312 phones online, 288 cloud and 24 real. Abdulla Ababakre, a former TikTok software engineer and former CEO of Interview Coder, is shipping it from San Francisco. His launch thread names three limits the product is meant to remove. Agents cannot use most apps. Sessions on the open web keep getting blocked by shops, airlines, and banks. And agents cannot see notifications or incoming messages, so they cannot act when a flight slips or a code arrives.
