About the launch
AutoRouter is a Mac app that picks a model for each turn inside Codex and Claude Code, for developers who keep sending every prompt to a frontier model. It reads the request, chooses a fit, and draws on the ChatGPT or Claude plan you already pay for before spending elsewhere. Public beta is open after a short alpha, as those agent sessions turn model choice into a recurring bill. The app adds more than 20 models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, DeepSeek, Moonshot, Z.ai, and MiniMax into the picker those tools already use, and you can still select a specific model yourself. Rules you write decide first. If none apply, AutoRouter estimates how hard the turn is and only considers models that clear a quality bar. Hard work goes to the strongest model your plans cover. Other work goes to the cheapest capable option, often a plan allowance or a free model. Routing across existing subscriptions is free. Pro costs $20 a month and includes $20 of usage for models outside those plans, billed at the provider price plus 10 percent. The company says this can cut spend by up to 50 percent. Tyler and Nadav Hollander are building it. Tyler co-founded CryptoTheGame, later acquired by Uniswap, and was previously at Capital, later acquired by Rho. Hollander was CTO of OpenSea and CEO of Dharma. The product is offered by Fractal Works and runs on macOS 14 or later, with Codex in the app and the CLI and with the Claude Code CLI. Teams can add org rules, budgets, and spend broken out by team, project, or ticket.
