About the launch
Vyra is a chat-driven video editor for creators, founders, and one-person channels who already have the footage. You upload raw clips, describe the cut, and get a finished edit back in minutes, with captions, music, and motion graphics drawn from the clips you filmed. On upload it transcribes every word with timestamps and writes a description of every scene, so a prompt can ask for a moment by what was said or what is on screen. The edit stays on a real timeline if you want to move a cut by hand. It runs in the browser and on iPhone, and Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor can drive the same project over MCP. Co-founders Sulan Zhang and Caleb Pong were students at Brown who started building Vyra in winter 2025 because editing was eating their nights. Zhang posts painting videos and vlogs as @sulansart. Pong had been editing video for seven years. They shipped a connector for outside AI assistants in May 2026, moved to San Francisco that summer to work on it full time, and joined Y Combinator's Fall 2026 batch as a two-person team. Zhang, on leave from Brown, posted this launch. They still cut their own videos in the product. A recording still turned into hours of pauses, retakes, captions, and crops before it could post, which is the problem they built around. Vyra does not generate footage. It only assembles what you filmed. In July 2026, Buffer tested 11 AI video editors on the same footage and the same brief and called Vyra the most consistent performer.
