About the launch
Kino is a video editor and media library for video teams and the coding agents working with them. Footage, the cut, and review notes live in one project. Clips are transcribed and described on ingest, so you can search by what was said or what is on screen, then ask Claude Code or Codex to pull highlights and assemble a timeline. A share link lets reviewers watch in a browser, and their comments land back on the timeline for a person or an agent to handle. On October 29, 2026, Kino opened that workflow for anyone to try at kino.ai. They cut the launch video in the product. Luke Igel had more than five agents on one stretch of the timeline while filmmaker Donald Jewkes ran his own agents a few minutes further down. Donald's agent did the sound design, Igel's did the rotoscoping, and both of them still made small fixes by hand. Every edit decision is code under a normal timeline, so a person can change any decision by hand. The desktop app runs on Mac, Windows, and Ubuntu and plays camera originals including ProRes, RED, Blackmagic RAW, DNxHR, and MXF. Luke Igel and Wesley Block started Kino after meeting as freshmen at MIT and making the documentary Regressions. Igel previously worked at NASA JPL and SpaceX. The San Francisco company is part of Y Combinator's Summer 2023 batch and began as local footage search for assistant editors. Igel has said the tool later ran on productions including Survivor and A24's Beef. This release is the version where an editor and coding agents share that library and timeline.
