Corgi Re is a new reinsurance platform from Corgi, the San Francisco insurance carrier founded in 2024 by Nico Laqua and Emily Yuan out of Y Combinator's Summer 2024 batch. The company started by writing general liability, cyber, and tech and AI liability policies for venture-backed startups, and this launch moves it upstream to sell coverage to insurance companies themselves, providing the capacity carriers use to manage catastrophic risk, protect balance sheets, and keep paying policyholders after major disasters. Reinsurance is a market historically built on decades-long relationships, complex data, and slow underwriting, which is why Corgi is pairing its underwriting technology and lean operating model with industry veterans who can open doors. The effort is led by Jeremy Eisemann, Corgi's Head of Government Affairs and Deputy General Counsel, who joined from the Reinsurance Association of America and previously spent years at Liberty Mutual. Corgi Re will operate inside the company's existing regulated insurance infrastructure alongside its admitted carrier, risk retention groups, captives, and MGA entities. For founders and operators, the takeaway is that the same platform selling them their first D&O or Tech E&O policy is now underwriting the carriers behind those policies, which is a meaningful step toward Corgi's stated goal of running full-stack insurance infrastructure rather than sitting at a single layer of the stack.

Insurance for insurance companies is such a delightfully recursive pivot. Next launch better be Corgi Re Re.

Been watching this team since the earliest deck. Calling it now, the reinsurance wedge is the actual business and startup insurance was the trojan horse.

The tweet copy does a lot of work in two lines. Rare to see a launch resist the urge to thread 14 tweets about the journey.

Whoever cut the launch video understood that the first three seconds decide everything. The pacing on the reinsurance reveal actually made me sit up.

That whip pan from the startup dashboard to the reinsurance dashboard was a choice. Slightly too fast, but the intent was clear.

Reinsurance is the most boomer corner of finance and you're selling it 'at the speed of compute'. Bold vibes clash, respect.

Category has been quiet for months and Corgi drops a Re product with no warning. Way more interesting than the last five insurtech launches combined.

Before I get excited, what does the procurement path look like? SOC2 Type 2, SSO via Okta, and a DPA I don't have to redline for six weeks?

The Corgi wordmark holding up against a reinsurance product is a small miracle. Whoever picked that orange deserves a raise.

Curious how the unit economics shake out when your customers are themselves underwriters. Feels like the margin conversation gets spicy fast.

Started with startup insurance, now insuring the insurers. At this rate Corgi Re Re Re will be insuring God.

First ten seconds of the video do the whole job. Whoever wrote 'insurance for insurance companies' as the cold open earned their salary this quarter.

Can somebody explain why every fintech launch now sounds like a Vercel deploy log. What was wrong with just calling it faster underwriting.

This might genuinely be the last reinsurance product built before agents start binding treaties autonomously. Screenshot this tweet.
