About the launch
Canva Brush is a vision-language model that looks at how a design is put together, including layout, layers, type, and color, and then makes the changes a user asks for inside Canva. It is aimed at people already building posters, decks, and social graphics in the editor, and it can fix one line of copy, restyle a full presentation, adapt a slide for another channel, or start from a blank page. The launch arrives a week after Canva Craft, the company's first image model, so image generation and design revision now come from separate in-house models built by the same lab. Brush was developed by Canva Research, a 160-person AI lab. It started from a leading open-weights model and was post-trained on real design and editing tasks, using design expertise and anonymized insights from people who opted in to help improve Canva AI. An agent loop writes and runs code to adjust elements, then inspects the page before the next step. Canva says Brush is up to 69% faster on general design editing tasks and 46% cheaper per edit than its previous design agent, and that internal tests matched or beat that earlier setup on most edits, with stronger results on restyling and format changes. Everything it produces stays fully editable. Brush is available now for supported design edits in Canva AI for Canva Pro subscribers, with wider access planned. To use it, open a design in the editor or attach one in Canva AI and select Brush from the model menu, then keep giving direction or take over by hand. Canva says Brand Kit support, the ability to reference attachments, and better handling of image-heavy layouts are already in progress.
