Atomarine designs modular data center barges for AI operators that need power without waiting on local grid connections, land, or freshwater. The barges would be built in shipyards, towed to coastal sites, and paired with a separate power vessel moored alongside, using seawater for cooling and a fiber link back to shore. The company announced a $19 million seed round for the effort, with investors including Y Combinator, Pantera Capital, and Soma Capital. Each platform is specified at 75 to 100 megawatts, and more barges can be added to grow a campus toward 450 megawatts. The first power vessels are planned to run on gas turbines, with marine nuclear reactors intended as a later replacement that leaves the data halls unchanged. Atomarine is targeting a gas-powered pilot in 2028 and says centralized shipyard production can put capacity in place about four times faster than building on land. The company is in Y Combinator's Summer 2026 batch. CEO Dimitris Koutentakis holds MIT degrees in electrical engineering and computer science, mechanical engineering with a naval architecture focus, and an MBA, and has ties to the Greek shipping industry. CTO Emile Germonpre holds a PhD in nuclear engineering from MIT.
