Turbine power for data centers that makes its own cooling water
What Viraj Aero launched

Today we launch @VirajAero (YC F26). We built a turbine to fly. Now it powers data centers: it makes its own cooling water from the exhaust, gets 40% more power from the same fuel, and gets permitted in weeks. No water connection, no wait for the grid. https://t.co/IazbO8egAk

About the launch
Viraj Aero, a Y Combinator Fall 2026 company, is launching a gas turbine genset for data centers that produces power and cooling water from the same unit. Burning natural gas already creates water vapor. The company captures it from the exhaust, uses part of it for cooling, and injects the rest into the turbine as steam, so the machine can run without a grid connection or a water pipeline. It is aimed at developers told to wait years for utility power, and at projects in water-stressed regions where a new water line is hard to secure. The company says steam injection delivers up to 40 percent more power from the same fuel and cuts NOx emissions by up to 99 percent, which it argues can shorten air permits from years to weeks. Its first product is a 10 MW genset of stacked turbine modules, packaged for a 10-foot container and meant to expand as a campus grows. On the Y Combinator launch, the founders said they already hold letters of intent covering more than 1.3 GW of demand. Co-founders Joseph Risson and Mathilde Bouilloux developed the closed loop first for aircraft, where carrying water tanks is impractical. Risson, an ISAE-SUPAERO turbomachinery engineer, previously worked on hybrid-electric propulsion at Ascendance and hydrogen propulsion at Beyond Aero. Bouilloux, trained at École des Ponts ParisTech, has developed large power projects at VINCI and Neoen. Operations are led by Nicolas Béchet, former managing director of GE Aerospace France, and the company says it is already working with Safran. A full-scale prototype is being integrated into an aircraft for a test flight planned in 2027, while the ground genset is pitched to developers who need firm power from 2028.
