About the launch
terminal-mac gives computer-use agents a separate macOS desktop and streams that desktop into the terminal already open on the host. It is for people running Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf, and other clients who want an agent to click, type, and screenshot real Mac apps without moving the host pointer or changing the host clipboard. The launch lands as those agents are expected to operate graphical software, where sharing one screen with the person at the keyboard is still the awkward constraint. On Apple silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later, Apple's Virtualization framework boots a real macOS guest. A helper app inside the guest captures the screen and posts input events, and Ghostty, Kitty, or iTerm2 draws the session inline with the Kitty graphics protocol. Agents reach the guest through MCP tools for screenshot, click, drag, scroll, type, key, and status, through a command-line action interface, and through a skill that walks an observe, act, verify loop. The guest keeps its own apps, files, accounts, and permissions, and does not inherit signed-in sessions from the host. A new VM defaults to 4 GiB of memory and a 64 GiB sparse disk, both configurable. The project is free and open source under the MIT license, published as an early release candidate by govi (GitHub govijr). A curl installer verifies the release checksum. The first run downloads a macOS restore image from Apple and guides setup, including Screen Recording and Accessibility grants inside the virtual Mac only. The host does not need those permissions. Releases are self-signed, and the project notes that live guest acceptance on a clean Mac is still pending. A sibling repository, terminal-phone, covers iOS simulators and iPhones.
