About the launch
Oboe is a free iOS and Android app that puts a personalized feed of interactive puzzles and challenges in front of people who already scroll their phones and want those minutes to leave them a little sharper. This launch replaces the product the company spent two years building. CEO Nir Zicherman says that first version did not work, and the new app is available to download today. The earlier Oboe used frontier models to offer personalized tutoring and courses on demand. Zicherman says it was hard to distinguish from general chatbots, gave people little reason to come back, and never made active learning a daily habit. A small, loyal group liked it. The company concluded that most people are not motivated to sit down and learn on purpose. The rebuilt app keeps the mission of making people smarter and builds it around a habit they already have. Each card is generated for the person using it, and difficulty rises as they keep working a challenge. Zicherman co-founded Oboe with Michael Mignano. The two previously built Anchor, the podcasting platform Spotify later acquired.
