Devin Voice adds a spoken interface to Devin, the autonomous coding agent from Cognition, letting engineers talk through ideas, pressure-test approaches, and hand off work while away from the keyboard. Users start a call from the home page or an existing session, and can interrupt Devin mid-response or mute themselves with a hotkey while it works. The launch is aimed at developers and engineering teams who already delegate tasks to Devin in text and want to run those handoffs from a phone, a walk, or a meeting.
The release pairs voice input, powered by OpenAI's GPT-Live, with Cognition's newly announced SWE-2 model. SWE-2 is available in Devin Desktop and CLI, and is rolling out on Devin Web and Fusion , positioning it as the reasoning layer behind spoken sessions as well as typed ones. Cognition frames SWE-2 as pushing the Pareto frontier, with gains in intelligence and efficiency that are closely connected , a framing the launch video leans into when Devin picks a boba order by weighing quality against delivery time.
Cognition, also known as Cognition Labs, was founded in November 2023 by Scott Wu (CEO), Steven Hao (CTO), and Walden Yan (CPO) , and the company is backed by Peter Thiel's Founders Fund along with Elad Gil and Doordash co-founder Tony Xu . Devin Voice matters now because voice has become the wedge for agent products across the industry, and shipping it alongside a new in-house model signals that Cognition wants Devin's interface and its underlying reasoning to advance on the same clock.

This is the last IDE-shaped product anyone will ship. In 18 months we're all just yelling at agents from the treadmill and reviewing PRs on our phones.

Voice is a fun wrapper but I want to see 90 day retention on Devin sessions before I get excited. Otherwise it's a demo tax on GPU spend.
