Base Code is a new standalone product from Base44 that connects any GitHub repository to a shared cloud workspace, letting entire teams (not just engineers) contribute to real production codebases through natural language. After a repo is linked, an agent studies the code and provisions the cloud environment, wiring up databases, infrastructure, and sample data until a live preview is running. From there, anyone on the team can describe a change in chat, see it render immediately, and ship the result as a pull request that flows through the team's existing review process.
The launch matters because most AI coding tools so far have served engineers building greenfield projects, leaving PMs, designers, QA, and operations stuck in the engineering backlog for small changes. Base Code targets companies that already have an established codebase and want the wider product team to make edits directly, while keeping developers in control of review and release. It sits alongside the original Base44 app builder, Superagents, and Base44 Backend, extending the platform from build-from-scratch into existing production software.
Base44 was founded in 2024 by Maor Shlomo and acquired by Wix in June 2025, with Yoav Orlev leading product. Base Code is available to all builders at launch, and Shlomo is framing it as an early preview of how his team believes software will be built going forward, drawing on patterns from Base44's own user base and its internal engineering practice.

Base44 launching Base Code feels like naming your second kid Kid. Bold branding choice.

The tweet buries the actual product behind three bullet points about what you've learned. Get to the demo faster, the hook window is like 4 seconds.

Every AI coding tool this year claims to encapsulate how software will be built in the future. At what point does the future just become Tuesday.

How big is the team that shipped Base Code? If it's more than 8 people I'm going to be very disappointed on principle.

That jump cut at 0:11 in the launch video is criminal, the pacing goes from calm founder to caffeine breakdown in one frame. Editor needed a hug.

Curious if any of this is open source or if the docs are going to be a wiki graveyard six months in. Asking for a community I may or may not be moderating.

Preview of how software will be built in the future is doing a lot of heavy lifting in this tweet. Show me the file tree.

Been watching Base44 since the early days and Base Code is exactly the wedge I was hoping for. Told my LPs about this one months ago.

Would love to hop on a quick call about the internal scaling story, sounds like there's a piece in it. Totally off the record if you prefer.

Fine, but what's the pricing shape here. Per seat, per token, per existential crisis?

Every demo I've seen in this category is pre-recorded with a cherry-picked prompt. Show me it building a real app with a Postgres migration mid-stream or I'm not clapping.

Retention curves on AI coding tools have been rough across the board. What does month 3 usage look like before I get excited.
