Unclutter is an open source browser extension that hides ads, cookie banners, upsell prompts, and other page clutter by asking an AI classifier whether each DOM element belongs on the page. It targets developers and power users who want more control than a static filter list offers, and it ships as a WXT extension for Chrome / Chromium and Firefox. Jev classifies nonessential page elements through Vercel AI Gateway or TypeSafe AI directly , storing the resulting rules locally so they reapply on future visits without another model call. The project is bring-your-own-key, with no bundled account or backend proxy. Users paste a Vercel AI Gateway key or TypeSafe AI key into the popup and choose between manual analysis (paid only when you click Analyze) or automatic analysis on page visit. Saved templates apply without further model requests, including zero-rule results , which keeps ongoing usage cheap once a site has been seen. Cookie overlays are eligible for visual hiding. No Accept/Reject buttons are clicked and no consent choice is written , so consent state stays untouched. The launch matters because it is one of the first practical showcases of TypeSafe AI's Jev decision model running against real page DOM in a shipping extension, packaged as something anyone can install from source today. It comes from Kristijan "Kitze" Ristovski, the developer behind the Sizzy browser for web developers, who has been publishing a stream of small tools under his tinkerer.club handle.

ok wait, calling it Jev is genius branding because now I can blame a fictional intern when it nukes a paywall I actually needed.

the tweet reads like a grocery list and honestly that's why it works, no fake origin story about your grandma's cluttered browser.

one more thing for the roadmap: let me whitelist specific slop because sometimes I want to read the upsell for research reasons.

BYOK on an ad blocker is a wild sentence to read in 2025 but I'm here for it.

hot take: cookie banners are the actual product of the modern web and ads are just the free tier.

counterpoint: if Jev is deciding what counts as slop, Jev is now the most powerful editor on the internet and nobody voted for him.

the download link buried under a shortened url with no preview card is doing this launch dirty, PH regulars would riot.

who's hiring extension engineers with manifest v3 scars? got a candidate who has been debugging chrome APIs since before it was trendy.

first tap test: I installed, opened medium, and it actually killed the 'sign up to keep reading' wall without breaking layout, which is more than I can say for three paid competitors.

as someone who reviews privacy policies for fun, 'BYOK open source' is the two-word combo that makes my compliance heart flutter.
