Tandem Intelligence is building an AI-native platform for hardware engineering teams, aimed at stitching together the disconnected artifacts that pile up during product development. The system connects design intent, requirements, CAD changes, and validation evidence in one place, built for real hardware teams. Rather than replacing the tools engineers already use for CAD and PLM, it sits across those workflows and captures the context that typically gets lost between requirements docs, design reviews, and release packages. Grounded in a team's process and data, Tandem's AI generates ECO drafts, design reviews, drawings, DFM feedback, impact reports, assembly documentation, and traceability reports. The launch marks a $4.9M raise led by Foundation Capital, announced alongside a lineup of early customers spanning regulated and frontier hardware domains, including Fluxergy in rapid diagnostics, Endiatx in non-invasive GI imaging, Vaxon Space in VLEO satellites, Starlight Cardiovascular in pediatric heart devices, and consumer hardware makers like Tusk and Daily's. The company positions itself for aerospace, space, medical devices, robotics, automotive, and heavy machinery teams, where traceability between customer requirements and engineering changes is a compliance requirement rather than a nice-to-have. The San Francisco company was founded by co-CEOs Arjun Jain and Kunal Jain along with co-founder Lokesh Kamanboina . The launch matters now because hardware teams are under pressure to ship faster while managing ever more complex systems, and the existing PLM and requirements tools were built for a pre-AI era of manual document control. Tandem is betting that the next wave of mechanical and electromechanical products needs a shared context layer that can reason across CAD, specs, and reviews the way modern software teams expect from their own tooling.

PLM has been a graveyard of good intentions for two decades. Curious if Tandem actually replaces Teamcenter workflows or just sits politely on top pretending to.

That launch video needed one more pass in the edit bay. The b-roll of the CAD viewport lingers about two seconds too long before the voiceover kicks in.

The website has a lovely restraint to it but the hero CAD render is fighting the type. Bump the headline weight or drop the render opacity, pick one.

Every hardware team I know still lives in Jira, Confluence, a shared drive named FINAL_v3, and one senior engineer's brain. If you can kill even one of those, take my money.

If this doesn't ship with agents that autonomously reconcile requirement drift against CAD revisions within a year, someone else will and eat the whole category.

Would love to know which primes or Tier 1s are in the design partner cohort. Off the record is fine, on the record is better.

The thread copy is doing a lot of work with 'the next great machine is waiting on its system.' Slightly ominous, slightly poetic, weirdly effective.

How are you handling ITAR and export-controlled CAD data? Because half your target market cannot legally let a foundation model near their step files.

Any public API on day one or is it all handled through the UI for now? Asking because our validation stack lives in Python and I'm not rewriting it.

Curious about the pricing shape here. Per-seat in a hardware org means you either capture the whole engineering floor or you get pilot-trapped forever.

How big is the team that shipped this? Enterprise hardware tooling usually implies 40 engineers and a compliance officer named Gerald.

Tokenize the validation evidence and you've basically got an onchain provenance layer for hardware. I'll see myself out.
