About the launch
Readwise Books is an ebook store and reading app where people can buy titles from major publishers, read them on phones, tablets, or Android e-readers, and track books finished in any format, including uploads and print. It is aimed at readers who already save highlights with Readwise or who want purchasing, reading, and progress logging under one account. The invite-only beta is live, existing subscribers can sign in now, and a public release is planned before the end of 2026. Purchases are currently limited to the United States, where the catalog includes millions of ebooks from the Big 5 publishers. Users anywhere can upload their own EPUBs, import libraries from Goodreads or Kindle, and log books read outside the app. Each session records time, pace, and progress automatically, and a feed shows what friends are reading along with comments. Cofounders Tristan Homsi and Daniel Doyon call the tracking Strava for reading and describe the app as a cross between Kindle and Goodreads. The app itself is free, and readers pay only for the ebooks they buy. This is the third product from the bootstrapped company Homsi and Doyon started in 2017. They began with a highlights tool, now renamed Readwise Highlights, that collects passages from Kindle and more than 30 other sources and brings them back on a schedule. Readwise Reader followed for articles, PDFs, and newsletters. Books required several years of publisher deals before it could sell a full catalog, and highlights made while reading sync into the shared account.
