About the launch
The Pierre Computer Company builds Code Storage, a Git layer that applications call through an API or the native Git protocol to create repositories and store files without operating their own cluster. It is aimed at AI coding platforms and agent frameworks that need history for generated code, memory files, design artifacts, and other files that change over time. Lovable, Poke, Anything, Bolt, Amp, and Parahelp already run production workloads on it. On November 4, 2026, OpenAI said it will acquire Pierre and bring Code Storage's features into Codex. Trees and Diffs, Pierre's open-source libraries for navigating project files and reviewing changes, already power those views in the Codex app. Terms were not disclosed. Closing still requires regulatory approval, and the companies remain independent until then. OpenAI said customers can keep using Code Storage after the deal closes, and that Pierre's open-source projects will stay open source. Pierre said it plans to keep building and supporting Code Storage, and to integrate it into other OpenAI systems over time. The news follows OpenAI's November 2 account of Pando, an internal source-control backend for engineers and agents working in parallel. Pierre was founded in 2023 by Jacob Thornton, its CEO and a co-creator of Bootstrap, and Ian Ownbey. Mark Otto, Bootstrap's other co-creator, is a designer on the team. The company entered Y Combinator's Winter 2023 batch with a code review product, then moved into the Git storage layer underneath those workflows.
