OpusClip's AI Producer now runs inside ChatGPT, letting creators upload raw footage and chat with the assistant to assemble a finished edit. The workflow covers the parts of post-production that usually eat the most time, including cuts, captions, B-roll, motion graphics, music, and sound effects, all driven by natural language prompts rather than a timeline. It builds on OpusClip's AI Producer, an AI video editor agent that turns raw talking-head footage into publish-ready video with real footage in and finished video out, no avatars or generated speakers , and extends that agent into a surface where many operators and marketers already spend their day. The timing tracks with OpenAI's newest model release. OpenAI launched GPT-6 Astra on September 3, 2026, with the rollout starting that Thursday for enterprise customers , and OpusClip is one of the early third-party tools plugging directly into it for a media-heavy workflow. For founders and creator-economy operators, the practical read is that a chat-first editing agent can now sit next to the same window used for research, drafting, and coding, which changes how quickly a single person can turn interview footage or a podcast recording into something postable. The company behind it is San Mateo-based OpusClip, best known for one-click long-to-short clipping. It was founded in 2022 by Young Zhao, Grace Wang and Jay W, and operates as a provider of AI video editing tools for short-form content creation , with Young Zhao as CEO. AI Producer is also being distributed beyond ChatGPT, with an official OpusClip plugin for editing talking-head videos in Codex and Claude Code that handles cuts, captions, motion graphics, and editable previews , signaling a broader bet that video editing belongs inside the assistants people already use.

The launch video jumps from talking head to demo in like 0.4 seconds and I felt that in my spine. Whoever cut this understands the first-two-seconds tax.

GPT-6 Astra? Either you got a preview drop or marketing is writing checks the model card can't cash. Which is it?

That tweet is doing numbers but the reply-to-like ratio is suspicious. Half the QTs are probably people asking for access.

Would love to chat about the ChatGPT integration story for a piece I'm working on. DMs open whenever you have a minute.

So it's like Premiere but you type into a chatbot instead of learning keyboard shortcuts. Wild times.

Cool demo, but where does the rendered file actually land? Drive, Dropbox, direct post to TikTok, or do I still have to babysit an export queue.

Any chance the raw footage gets stored or trained on? Asking for every legal team that has ever said no to a fun tool.

Building something adjacent, roughly 3 weeks from beta. Curious if the chat interface is actually faster than a good timeline once you know what you want.

First-tap test: dropping footage into a chat window is genuinely lower friction than any timeline UI I've seen this year. The empty state prompts are doing real work.

Every one of these demos looks incredible until you feed it a shaky iPhone clip of a toddler birthday. Show me that reel.

This is basically the last non-agentic editor anyone will ship. In 6 months the AI will just watch your raw footage overnight and post finished clips while you sleep.

A good tool disappears. A great one makes you forget you had a workflow.
