Dots are OpenAI's new personal agents inside ChatGPT, powered by GPT-6 Astra and running continuously on their own cloud computer and browser rather than waiting for a single prompt and reply. They are aimed at Pro and Business Premium subscribers who want to hand off multi-step work like reviewing customer feedback, preparing software releases, or turning an interview transcript into clips and social copy, and users can reach a Dot through ChatGPT, Slack and Microsoft Teams, with text messaging support planned.
The launch landed at OpenAI's DevDay on September 29, 2026 , placing OpenAI directly against Meta's Muse in the personal-agent category. Each Dot has its own cloud computer and browser and can use more than 4,000 connected apps through OpenAI's plugin ecosystem, work across several projects, send progress updates and ask questions as it goes. The follow-up demo tweet from the OpenAI Developers account is a quick re-run of the keynote walkthrough, pitched at founders and operators evaluating whether to build on top of the agent surface rather than around it.
Access is deliberately gated. OpenAI is rolling out Dots to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium subscribers in eligible markets, with the first Dot included at no extra cost, while Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare customers can access a beta when a workspace administrator enables it. OpenAI is also piloting specialist Dots for businesses, each with its own identity and credentials for a defined role, and is working with Microsoft to bring those specialist agents to Agent 365. Permissioning matters more than usual here, since Dots have built-in rules for when to act independently plus Custom Rules that can allow, block or require approval for particular actions, with an auto-review step that checks whether actions comply with those rules and safety requirements.

The 'now with better WiFi' flex is the most relatable launch copy I've seen all quarter. Every demo gods tax has been paid.

Reposting the demo because the first one had bad WiFi is extremely on-brand for a company whose whole product is 'the model will figure it out.'

Always-on agents handling everything is doing a lot of heavy lifting in one sentence. Define 'everything' before I let one near my calendar.

Cute demo, but every always-on agent pitch I've seen since 2022 quietly means 'cron job with vibes.' Show me the eval, not the voiceover.

First 8 seconds of the video had no hook, just a logo and a vibe. If this were a TikTok I'd have swiped before the agent woke up.

Tagline rewrite, no charge: 'Agents that stay up so you don't have to.' You can venmo me later.

Curious what the retention curve looks like on week 2 when the novelty of watching an agent click buttons wears off. Agents are a demo-rich, DAU-poor category historically.

If OpenAI is shipping on dots.com the domain budget alone deserves its own launch post. Someone's uncle got paid.
