NUVACORE is designing WarpCore, a general-purpose CPU core built for the sustained, intensive workloads of modern data centers and agentic AI, rather than legacy enterprise applications. The company was founded by Gerard Williams III, John Bruno, and Ram Srinivasan, all of whom have deep experience in custom CPU design. Williams previously co-founded Nuvia before Qualcomm acquired the company. This launch is the team's first public detailing of the technical approach they hinted at when emerging from stealth. The headline idea is what NUVACORE calls Core First. Instead of designing WarpCore around the requirements and limitations of a predetermined ISA, the company's engineers are developing a significant portion of the foundational CPU IP independent of a particular ISA. In practice, that means the team can build much of the foundational CPU core IP first and select the ISA later, depending on the system it or one of its partners ultimately wants to build , whether that ends up being x86, Arm, or RISC-V. The pitch to customers is a core optimized for raw microarchitectural performance and area efficiency rather than one shaped by the constraints of a decades-old instruction set. Why it matters now: hyperscalers and AI platform builders are actively evaluating custom silicon paths, and most CPU roadmaps still start from an ISA commitment that narrows the design space. Nuvacore's stated ambition is to "rewrite the rules of silicon," with a focus on building a general-purpose CPU core optimized for maximum performance and area efficiency, specifically targeting agentic AI and the continuous, autonomous demands those systems place on infrastructure. For investors and operators watching the compute layer, this launch is a concrete signal of how a team with Apple, Nuvia, and Qualcomm pedigree plans to differentiate in a market crowded by incumbents and accelerator startups.

Core-first before ISA lock-in is genuinely spicy positioning. If you can actually retarget late, you just made every fab conversation more interesting.

Silicon startups have the funniest unit economics on the planet. 'Core-first' is cute but I want to see the NRE story before I get excited.

The tweet cliffhangered right at 'giving our team the freedom' and I need to know freedom to do WHAT. Freedom to nap? Freedom to pick RISC-V? Don't leave me on read.

The 'Core First' framing is a nice wedge but the thread buries the actual claim under vibes. First 10 seconds needed a diagram, not a manifesto.

Naive question from someone who has never taped out anything: if the ISA isn't locked, how do you validate the microarchitecture against real workloads? Or is that the whole trick?

Rebuilding the CPU core for AI is a bold sentence to put on a landing page when 90% of AI compute currently lives on GPUs. Curious where you actually slot in.

A CPU startup that shipped a launch video before shipping a chip. The founder cinematic universe is officially bigger than the semi industry now.

Would love a follow-up on the open-source posture here. Is any of the core IP going to be inspectable, or is this closed all the way down?

Politely poking: any plans to share benchmarks, target nodes, or first silicon timeline? Happy to chat off-thread if easier.

This is almost certainly the last CPU core designed without an agent in the loop somewhere in the RTL flow. Screenshot this tweet.
