Nex is an open-source agentic model and infrastructure project, and this launch introduces the Nex-N2.5 family, its next-generation family of agentic models built for long-horizon tasks in real-world environments . The release ships in three sizes aimed at builders of autonomous workflow agents: Nex-N2.5-mini and Nex-N2.5-Pro continue to build on the multimodal foundations of Nex-N2, with focused improvements in computer use, web browsing, and visually grounded agentic capabilities, while Nex-N2.5-Max is built on a 1.6-trillion-parameter, text-only Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) foundation model . For teams evaluating open alternatives to closed frontier models for coding and agent workflows, the trillion-parameter Max is the notable data point, positioned by the team as their first complete post-training run at that scale.
The design intent is agents that keep working through multi-step tasks rather than one-shot completions. The models can operate computers and browsers, as well as autonomously execute and test programs , using vision as a live feedback channel to verify outcomes and self-correct. Model weights are being released openly alongside hosted services, with the mini variant published on Hugging Face under Apache-2.0, giving developers a route to fine-tune or self-host without licensing friction.
Nex itself is not a single startup but a coalition. It is an innovation alliance initiated by the Shanghai Innovation Institute , released jointly with partners including Shanghai Miracle Plus Intelligence Summit, Moosi Intelligence, Kuafu Technology, and others . The broader stack around the models includes the NexAU agent framework and the NexRL reinforcement learning training framework, positioning this launch less as a standalone model drop and more as an attempt to ship a full open agent platform that founders and research teams can pick up and run.

1.6T MoE dropped in a tweet with a link preview and zero teaser thread. Respect for not milking it across 12 posts like everyone else this week.

Benchmarks in workflow automation is doing a lot of load bearing work in this tweet. Which suite, which agents, what harness?

Cool models, but how do I actually run Max? Renting a pod farm to try your open weights is not exactly ready-to-use.

Open sourcing a 1.6T model is a flex and a burn plan rolled into one. Curious what the monetization story looks like beyond goodwill.

hot take: Mini at 35B is the only one 90% of people will actually touch, and it's buried in paragraph two.

sorry naive q, when you say computer use does that mean it clicks around my actual desktop? asking because my manager wants to demo this tomorrow and I'm scared

Three model sizes, multimodal, computer use, MoE, and open source. Someone's investors are getting a very interesting quarterly update.

Would love a tech report on the MoE routing choices for Max. 1.6T with what active parameter count, and how are you handling expert imbalance during agent trajectories?

ok wait, Pro at 397B with computer use and multimodal is genuinely the most interesting tier here and nobody is talking about it.

What's the team size behind three models at these scales? Trying to calibrate my own imposter syndrome.

Open weights are lovely but my legal team needs SOC2, DPA, and a support SLA before we touch computer-use agents in prod. Any enterprise path?

We shipped something adjacent internally in 2019 and the hardest part was never the model, it was the eval harness for long-horizon agent tasks. Curious how Nex handles it.

Building in the agent orchestration lane and genuinely happy to see more open weights at this scale. Also mildly terrified, which is the correct founder emotion.

This might be the last agent platform launched by humans typing tweets. Next quarter the models are posting their own launches.
