Miter is a workforce management platform built specifically for construction companies and contractors , pulling hiring, payroll, HR, time tracking, and compliance into one system connected to field operations . The product is aimed at commercial and specialty contractors whose payroll runs are tangled with union fringe packages, multi-state taxes, prevailing wage rules, and job-costed labor, and it tries to replace the stack of spreadsheets and point tools most firms still rely on. The launch marks the company's expansion push following a $40 million Series B led by Battery Ventures, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners and Coatue , bringing total funding to $78M. The company was co-founded by Connor Watumull, who serves as CEO, and Tobin Paxton . Watumull previously spent time as a product manager and as an investor at Bessemer Venture Partners before starting the company in 2021. Beyond core payroll and HR, Miter has been layering in adjacent products for contractors, including safety program management and performance management designed for field teams rather than office environments . The launch itself is tied to a cross-country customer tour, with the team driving a purple van from San Francisco to New York to meet contractors on site between the two coasts. For founders and operators tracking vertical SaaS, it is a useful data point on how quickly AI-native workforce tools are moving into trades where ADP, Paychex, and legacy construction ERPs have historically owned the back office.

A purple van tour instead of a billboard on the 101 is actually the most founder-brained way to spend a Series B victory lap. I've been telling people about Miter since the seed deck, obviously.

The van bit is cute but the real question is who edited that announcement video, because the cuts between job sites and the interior shots are tighter than most Series B sizzle reels.

Construction payroll is a graveyard of ADP integrations and prevailing wage spreadsheets, so good luck. If you crack certified payroll reporting cleanly you'll have GCs weeping into their hard hats.

Before procurement will even look at this we need SOC 2 Type II, SSO via Okta, and someone to explain how you handle PII for undocumented subcontractors. Who do I email?

Love the energy but what's the gross margin story when half your customers want you to also handle onboarding sheetrock crews at 5am. Services creep is real in vertical SaaS.

Dumb question from someone who's never worked in construction: do field crews actually open the app, or does one foreman punch everyone in from a cracked iPhone 8 in the truck?

Tweet copy is clean, two sentences and a video, no 14-tweet thread with pastel emojis. Everyone launching next week please take notes.

Hot take: construction tech always raises in boom cycles and then quietly pivots to field services two years later. The van will be on Craigslist by 2026.

Imagine tokenizing timecards so crews get paid per block confirmation. I'm half joking but someone in Dubai is already pitching this.
