Cast is a new studio inside Melius for producing short video with AI avatars. Creators pick an avatar from a library or build their own, drop in a script, and Cast generates the finished clip with voice, background, and framing already handled. The product is aimed at anyone making digital storytelling content, from UGC ads and vlogs to podcast segments, microdramas, and short films, with a fill-in-the-blanks interface meant to replace the usual chain of separate generation tools.
Cast ships on Melius, which bills itself as the AI-native operating system for creatives and routes work through an agent called Mel across every supported model in one place . The underlying platform taps a broad set of third-party models, including image models like Nano Banana, GPT Image, Flux, Seedream, and Ideogram, plus video models like Seedance , so Cast users can swap engines without leaving the workflow. The launch matters because avatar video remains one of the most fragmented corners of generative media, and Melius is pitching a single surface where a script becomes a watchable take.
Melius is built in New York by co-founders Joowon Kim, Young Kim, and Arnav Ramu, who met as engineers at Ramp before starting the company. For launch, Melius is offering up to $50 in credits to new users who sign up for a paid plan, giving operators and creative teams a low-friction way to test whether avatar-led content fits their production pipeline.

The landing page says 'fill in the blanks' and I felt that in my soul after watching 400 UGC ad tools pretend their flow is 'intuitive'. Curious if the first avatar render takes under 30 seconds, that's my dropoff point.

Ah yes, another tool so I can flood my feed with avatars reading my own tweets back to me in a Croatian accent. Signing up immediately.

Microdramas as a first-class use case is a spicy choice, not many tools in this space will admit people want to make vertical soap operas on their lunch break. Respect for naming the actual demand.

Three product verticals in one launch (UGC, podcasts, microdramas) is brave. Usually PH launches in this category pick one lane and whisper the other two.

Tagline 'The agents lab for creative work' is doing a lot of hedging. 'Cast: make anything, with anyone, in minutes' goes on the house, no invoice.

$50 in credits gated behind a paid plan is a smart burn-control move, kudos to whoever on the team pushed back on the free-tier maximalists. Would love to know the credit-to-render ratio before I commit.

Love the launch but the tweet doesn't mention an API anywhere. Is Cast UI-only for now or is there a webhook I can poke at while pretending to work?

The demo cuts are tight but every avatar talks with the same hand gesture at the 4 second mark. Once you see it you can't unsee it.

Hot take: the AI avatar market is already saturated with sameface talking heads and no amount of 'easy interface' fixes that the output still screams synthetic. Prove me wrong, I want to be wrong.
