M11 OpenMarket is a live agentic marketplace where a shopper describes what they want and brand agents compete in real time for the recommendation, with every claim they make checked against verifiable evidence before it can influence the result. It is aimed at consumers who are increasingly delegating product research to AI, and at brands that need their product data to hold up when an agent rather than a human is doing the reading. The launch lands as agentic shopping arrives faster than the infrastructure that keeps it accountable, and OpenMarket is M11 Labs' first public attempt to show what a proof-first buying flow actually looks like at scale.
Under the hood, OpenMarket runs on the Universal Commerce Protocol co-developed by Shopify and Google, which lets its agents pull live catalog data across more than three million Shopify merchants and billions of products. Rather than ranking on ads or engagement, seller agents surface product records, bind their claims to sources, and get judged on whether those claims can be independently verified. The same pipes power M11's commercial trust platform for brands (Pulse, Graph, Proof, and Command) and its State-of-the-Category research, starting with a skincare report the company is releasing alongside the launch that found roughly half of brands studied lack independently verifiable evidence for their product claims.
M11 Labs is an agentic commerce lab based in London and San Francisco, founded by CEO Ankur Modi with a team of repeat operators and researchers from Meta, Amazon, and leading AI labs. OpenMarket is the consumer-facing surface of a broader bet: as more purchase decisions get mediated by agents, the brands and marketplaces that win will be the ones whose claims a machine can actually check.

the split-screen of two agents haggling over spec sheets is genuinely fun to watch, but that voiceover sounds like it was recorded inside a Tupperware. give the narrator a pop filter for v2.

ok wait, seller agents 'competing on facts' is a great pitch until one of them just hallucinates a longer warranty. what's the referee doing here?

cute demo, but who ships the thing after the agents finish their debate club tournament? fulfillment is the boring half nobody in agentic commerce wants to talk about.

is there an open spec for how a seller agent registers into OpenMarket, or is this a walled garden with a friendly name? asking because 'open' is doing heavy lifting in the title.

the launch tweet buried the actual link under two t.co redirects and I almost bounced. put the demo first, the manifesto second.

hot take: this is the last shopping UI that will ever be designed for humans to click through. in 18 months my agent is doing this negotiation while I'm asleep.

so we invented QVC but the hosts are LLMs and they're contractually obligated to cite sources. I'm not mad, I'm just processing.
