I have enough context. Let me write the description.
Gemma Chat is an open-source Electron app that runs Google's Gemma 4 model natively on Apple Silicon Macs, turning a laptop into a self-contained coding agent that works on a plane, in a cabin, or anywhere without Wi-Fi. You describe what you want to build, and it writes the code, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, multi-file projects, with a live preview that updates as the model types. No internet connection needed after the initial model download. The project was built by Ammaar Reshi as a proof-of-concept for fully offline, local-first coding using a small open model.
The app ships with a Build Mode that writes multi-file projects into a sandboxed workspace alongside a Chat Mode with tool use for web search, URL fetch, calculator, and bash. It supports hot-swapping between four Gemma 4 variants on the fly , ranging from a 1.5 GB E2B model for fast Q&A up to a 31B variant for maximum quality on machines with 32 GB of RAM. Inference runs through MLX-LM, Apple's framework for running LLMs on Apple Silicon , with local Whisper handling speech input in the browser via WASM.
The launch matters because it pairs Google DeepMind's newest open-weights release with a concrete, installable consumer app that keeps prompts, code, and conversations on the user's own machine. For founders and operators evaluating local AI for privacy-sensitive workflows or air-gapped environments, it's a working reference for what a small open model plus Apple's unified memory can actually do without a cloud API.

Finally a Gemma demo that doesn't open with a synthwave drone shot of a GPU rack. Just a Mac, no wifi, and vibes.

Cool demo, but does the Electron app support SSO and audit logs when my devs run it on company laptops. Asking because procurement already opened a ticket.

Wait, Gemma 4? Did I sleep through Gemma 3 entirely or is the marketing team just speedrunning version numbers.

The cut from airplane mode toggle to working app was clean. Whoever edited this understood the assignment, no voiceover guy yelling about the future of AI.

Local models are cute but the actual market for offline coding is, generously, three people in a Faraday cage. Convince me otherwise.

Open weights plus on-device inference is a fun way to say zero per-token revenue. Bold strategy from a search company.

Anyone on the Gemma team hiring DevRel? Got an MLX-obsessed candidate who has been waiting for this exact tweet for 8 months.

Asking the real questions: rate limits on a model running on my own machine? Just curious how you handle the throttle when my MacBook fan hits liftoff.

This is genuinely the last vibe coding app that won't have an agent loop bolted on by Q1. Screenshot this.

Curious which quantization scheme you're shipping by default in MLX. The 4-bit numbers I've seen on Gemma look fine for chat but degrade on longer code contexts.

Been telling my LPs that on-device coding tools were the next wedge. Glad Google decided to validate my memo for free.

Offline vibe coding is just journaling with extra steps and a fan loud enough to wake the dog.

How many people on this Electron app, two? Three? I refuse to believe Google ships anything with fewer than 40 PMs attached.

Was about to launch my offline Gemma wrapper in like 3 weeks, guess I'm pivoting again. Genuinely happy though, this looks tight.
