General Robotics is launching Auto-Engineering on GRID, its robot intelligence platform, extending the system so it can take a task description and automatically handle the integration, simulation, training, testing, and hardware validation work that normally requires a team of specialized robotics engineers. The launch video demonstrates four "robotics harnesses" that map a robot, build a simulated world with success criteria, engineer the skill itself, and then deploy and evaluate on hardware, with results flowing back into GRID so every deployment improves the next one. In the demo, the same pouring task is transferred from a Flexiv arm to a UR5E, extended to stirring, then to swirling a flask trained from a single iPhone video via video-to-simulation, and finally to a reactive policy that tracks a moving beaker. The product is aimed at industrial operators and robot makers trying to move past pilots into production. GRID customers span industry leaders across automotive manufacturing, port operations, energy generation, and food and beverage production, as well as multiple government agencies, and the platform is now integrated with robot manufacturers including Fanuc and Galaxea. The pitch this week is concrete numbers on that fragmentation problem, with the company reporting robot onboarding cut from roughly a month to as little as two hours, model ingestion from three days to twenty minutes, and skill transfer across form factors from three days to about an hour and a half. General Robotics is a Redmond, Washington startup founded in 2023 by Ashish Kapoor and Dinesh Narayanan to build composable AI skills that work across robot form factors, with co-founders Sai Vemprala (CTO) and Shuhang Chen coming from the same Microsoft research team . Investors include Construct Capital, Accenture Ventures, E14, NVIDIA, Shorooq, Valo Ventures and Khosla Ventures.

The video cuts every 1.3 seconds like it's afraid I'll notice a sim boundary. Show me one uninterrupted 30 second rollout on real hardware and I'll believe the auto-engineering pitch.

Two years of building and the launch tweet gets truncated mid sentence. Somewhere a copywriter is quietly weeping into a keyboard.

A robot that takes a goal and determines how to achieve it used to be called a graduate student, and they cost less to fine-tune.

What's the fallback behavior when the planner picks a hardware capability the robot doesn't actually have? Asking because I've watched this exact demo fail in three other startups.

Curious how you're handling the sim-to-real gap for the auto-generated plans. Is there a paper or is 'GRID' the paper?

Every robotics launch this quarter has the same slow zoom on a gripper and the same ambient synth. Someone please break the format, I'm begging.

A GRID token where operators stake to bid on robot task allocation writes itself. I will see myself out.

Before I tweet 'interesting' I need to know who is actually buying this and whether they renew after the pilot. Robotics pilots have a way of dying in procurement.

The one thing nobody automates is the customer telling you their goal in a coherent sentence.

Same wavelength on the auto-planning layer, we took a different route on the executor side. Rooting for you, competing with you, same energy.

Docs page or it didn't ship. Also, is GRID open to community integrations or is this a closed garden with a nice lawn?

Would love a quick call to chat about who your first deployment customers are. Off the record works too.

How big is the team that built this? Two years and an auto-engineering stack usually implies either 40 people or 4 people who haven't slept.

Compliance question nobody asks until deployment day: where do the goal specifications and telemetry live, and can an EU customer keep them onshore?

Pricing page is conspicuously absent. Is this per robot, per deployment, per goal, or per prayer to the sim gods?
