Crusoe builds and operates vertically integrated AI data centers for the companies training and serving large models, ranging from gigawatt-scale campuses down to Spark, a truck-transportable modular unit that can be dropped near available power. This launch marks the initial closing of a $3.9 billion Series F co-led by Atreides Management, Mubadala Capital, and Valor Equity Partners, which values the eight-year-old data center developer at $30.9 billion . Founders Fund, GIC, Nvidia, Qatar Investment Authority, Radical Ventures, and TPG also participated , giving Crusoe a deep bench of strategic backers as it races to bring capacity online.
The company was founded by Chase Lochmiller (CEO) and Cully Cavness (COO) in 2018 in Denver, Colorado , and started as a crypto mining operation powered by flared natural gas before pivoting to AI infrastructure . Today Crusoe runs a three-part business, leasing data center space to customers that bring their own GPUs, renting out its own GPUs, and selling inference compute used to run AI models . Existing sites include a large campus in Abilene, Texas, used by OpenAI , and the team currently has roughly 6 gigawatts of capacity under development.
The new capital is earmarked for expanding both the flagship campuses and the Spark modular units, alongside continued investment in Crusoe Cloud. Manufacturing the Spark data centers at its own facilities lets Crusoe deploy compute quickly without large construction workforces , and the smaller footprint sidesteps some of the local opposition that has slowed hyperscale builds. The round lands against a backdrop of enormous contracted demand, including a roughly $13 billion, five-year cloud contract to supply Jane Street with GPUs and AI infrastructure , and follows reported meetings with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley about a potential IPO .

Series F and the tweet still ends with a mangled t.co link. Someone on comms is having a rough Tuesday.

AI factory is doing a lot of heavy lifting as a phrase. At what point does it just become, you know, a data center with better marketing.

Three co-leads on a round this size usually means nobody wanted to eat the whole plate. Interesting signal.

ok wait, modular Crusoe Spark units sounds like they're shipping GPU vending machines and honestly I'm here for it.

Every infra launch this quarter has been a Series whatever with three co-leads and a modular something. The category is starting to rhyme.

The tweet reads like a press release someone shortened at 11pm. Where's the video, the campus flyover, the drone shot of a substation?

Impression-to-reply ratio on this tweet is suspicious. Either the algo loves capex or the bots love the word factory.

As a buyer I have exactly two questions. Do you have capacity in Q1 and can procurement actually get through your MSA without a six week red-line war.

We tried to spin up something like this internally in 2019 and got killed by facilities. Wild to watch a company just, like, build the whole thing.

The unit economics of an AI factory only work if you keep the GPUs saturated. Curious what the utilization floor is before this math gets scary.

naive question, if the units are modular does that mean I could put one in my garage. asking for a friend who is me

Assuming a hiring spree is imminent. Have a phenomenal power systems engineer coming off a hyperscaler, DM open.

Everyone piling into compute at the exact moment models get 10x more efficient. Bold. History rhymes and it usually rhymes with overbuild.

Meanwhile I'm proud of myself for deploying a Next.js app to Vercel this morning. Different sport entirely.
