Cohere was founded by Aidan Gomez, Nick Frosst, and Ivan Zhang (well-known). North 2 is an overhaul of Cohere's platform for running AI agents inside large organizations, pairing a redesigned system for orchestrating multistep agent work with new administrator controls for capping token spending. Built by the Toronto-based team founded by Aidan Gomez, Nick Frosst, and Ivan Zhang, the platform targets banks, telcos, and public sector buyers who want agentic workflows without handing data or model weights to a third-party cloud. North has been generally available since August 2025, and Cohere said a year of large production deployments in industries from finance to the public sector shaped what went into this upgrade. The orchestration layer now runs multistep tasks autonomously and loops in a human when a step needs sign-off, and agents built from a simple prompt can be shared across a company, each agent keeps memory between sessions, and a new skills feature packages logic that agents call on repeatedly. From a natural-language request, North 2 can produce a slide deck, dashboard, or lightweight app that users prototype inside the chat window, and for recurring processes there are prebuilt templates and a drag-and-drop workflow builder that reports performance in real time. The connector library covers Slack, GitHub, SharePoint, and OneDrive, with planned connectors to financial data providers including PitchBook, S&P Global, and FactSet. The governance story is where this launch earns the "without compromises" framing. North Admin now tracks token use down to the individual user and agent, lets administrators define consumption tiers and cap usage across the company, and supports alerts before limits are hit. Because North 2 is model-agnostic, administrators can assign models that customers bring from outside Cohere. Guardrails screen for personally identifiable information and prompt injection, autonomy policies restrict each agent to authorized actions, and North still runs on-premises or in a customer's own virtual private cloud, including fully air-gapped installations. Bell Canada's Bell Cyber unit is already running North inside its security operations, with CTO Jawed Ahmad citing the control and sovereignty requirements its customers demand.

The phrase 'without compromises' is doing Olympic-level gymnastics in that tweet. Every enterprise AI launch I've ever seen is 90% compromise with a nice coat of paint.

Launch page buries the sovereignty angle three scrolls down, which is wild because that's the only word in the tagline that actually means something to a CIO.

Quick naive one: if it's sovereign, who holds the keys when the customer fires Cohere? Asking because my boss asked me and I panicked.

Counting the cuts in the first 8 seconds of that video and someone over there is editing like it's a Nike ad. Respect, but my eyes needed a lie down.

That voiceover is reading like a Deloitte whitepaper at 1.25x. Great product video, questionable energy, nobody is sharing this at a dinner party.

15+ new features is a very weird way to say a number. Is it 15? Is it 47? What are we hiding, friends.

The enterprise agent TAM is quietly shrinking as every SaaS vendor ships their own in-app agent. North 2 is fighting for the shelf space between Salesforce and ServiceNow and that shelf is on fire.

Sovereign models are basically L1s for data. Someone at Cohere is going to wake up in two years and realize they should've tokenized the inference credits.

Scanned the launch page for a docs link and had to CMD-F. If you want devs inside the enterprise champion this, surface the SDK before the sizzle reel.

Love it, now add a native eval harness for the agents so compliance can audit decisions post-hoc. You can thank me in the North 2.1 changelog.

Free rewrite: 'North 2. The agent platform your security team actually signs off on.' Specific beats aspirational every time.

Still waiting for someone to prove enterprise chatbots work before we jump to enterprise agents, but sure, let's skip two steps.

Impression-to-reply ratio on the launch tweet is doing something weird. Either the bots found it or the enterprise crowd is reading in silence from their locked-down browsers.

This might be the last major platform launch where humans still touch the config files. By North 3 the agents will be writing their own release notes.

Reminds me of what the team at Glean was doing on the search side two years back, just pointed at agents instead. Portfolio bias aside, the on-prem story is the moat.
