BackOps is an AI resolution layer for companies that make or move physical goods, automating the back-office work that keeps supply chains running. Its agents handle end-to-end processes like carrier claims, chargeback disputes, complex billing, and forecasting, connecting to carrier systems and third-party portals so operations teams at grocery, retail, logistics, and distribution enterprises can push approved work through to completion without stitching together custom infrastructure for months.
The San Francisco company was founded in 2024 by CEO Sean McCarthy and CTO Henry Ou, and this launch marks a $42M Series B led by Insight Partners with participation from existing backers Theory Ventures, Construct Capital, Gradient Ventures, and 10VC. It arrives just six months after a $26M Series A, an unusually tight cadence that reflects rapid enterprise pull. The new capital will fund an expansion of supported resolution processes across operations, finance, and customer service, along with growth across product, engineering, and go-to-market.
The bet McCarthy is making with this round is that as foundation models commoditize, the defensible advantage shifts to proprietary data generated by actually doing the work at production scale. BackOps is leaning into that thesis by capturing the context, decisions, and outcomes behind every run, then feeding those patterns back into the system so new customers ramp faster and existing deployments improve as workflows evolve. For operators evaluating where AI agents can move beyond pilots into real P&L impact, this launch is a signal that logistics back-office work is one of the first places it is happening.

The 'moat is doing the work' framing is spicy. Every VC deck next quarter is about to plagiarize this exact sentence.

Proprietary data from doing the work is a nice line, but every RPA company said the same thing in 2019 and now they're org charts in a Zendesk instance.

Six months between rounds is either brilliant or a cry for help, and honestly in logistics it's usually both.

Freight brokers spending their whole day in Excel and Outlook is one of the great untapped comedies of American business. Good hunting.

Any details on how you're handling the long tail of carrier EDI formats, or is that still hidden behind 'AI agents'?

ok wait, the tweet buries the lede. Insight leading back to back rounds in logistics AI is the actual story here.

That tweet has zero images, zero video, zero thread. Just vibes and a funding number. Weirdly refreshing.

Curious what the reply-to-quote ratio looks like on this one. Funding announcements always skew weird because everyone RTs and nobody actually reads.

Building something adjacent, roughly 3 weeks from launch. Watching how you position 'agents' vs 'automation' very closely because the market is a mess right now.
