Accrual is expanding beyond its origins in tax preparation to become a single software system that accounting firms can use across tax, audit, client accounting, and advisory work. The company started with individual, trust, and partnership returns, and launched publicly in February 2026 with $75 million in funding, supporting every federal and state tax form along with the unstructured data (emails, spreadsheets, handwritten notes) needed to complete them . This launch marks the point where that same infrastructure now covers audit and advisory engagements as well, positioning Accrual as a horizontal platform for the firm rather than a point tool for one practice line. The centerpiece of the expansion is Arc, an agent layer that sits on top of the firm's connected systems. Practitioners give Arc an objective, approve its plan, and receive the completed work for review, from Excel workbooks and client reports to analyses and workpapers . Accrual rolled out Arc with 20 agents for common accounting firm workflows, with new agents added each week, and firms can teach Arc their own processes, save them as reusable agents, share them across teams, and schedule recurring work . Permissions, recorded actions, and human review are built in, so partners retain sign-off on the deliverable. Accrual was founded by CEO Cosmin Nicolaescu and CTO Siddarth Chandrasekaran, and is based in San Francisco. The timing matters because firms are heading into a stretch where most software treats accounting as a collection of disparate tasks , and consolidation across tax, audit, and CAS is becoming a real procurement question. With Armanino already running Accrual in live production across thousands of individual returns and a recent move into client accounting services through the acquisition of Puzzle's technology , this release is worth watching for anyone tracking how mid-market and large firms decide to rebuild their software stack.

Going from tax to audit and advisory is a big jump. Audit partners are the most paranoid buyers on earth, curious how you handle sign-off trails.

Called this pivot back when the tax-only version shipped. Firms don't buy point tools anymore, they buy platforms, and Accrual gets it.

Naive question but what does 'intelligence platform' actually mean here? Like is there a specific workflow it replaces or is it more of a layer on top of everything?

One more thing for the roadmap: engagement letter generation tied to the advisory scope. Firms lose hours on this and nobody has nailed it.

The launch page is clean but the hero copy is doing three jobs at once. Pick a lane: are you the brain, the OS, or the copilot.

Accounting software TAM has been quietly eaten by embedded finance for years. Expanding surface area doesn't fix that, it just spreads the problem.

Curious what the team size looks like behind this. Shipping tax + audit + advisory in one platform usually means an army, would love to know if you kept it lean.

Building in adjacent territory (advisory workflows for CFOs) and honestly the framing here is sharp. Watching closely, may or may not steal the 'built for where the profession is going' line.

Do accountants actually want AI touching their working papers? Last I checked in 2019 they still emailed Excel files around and seemed pretty happy.
