Profound is an Answer Engine Optimization platform that helps marketing teams see and shape how their brand appears inside ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews, and other AI assistants. The company started by giving marketing teams visibility into how AI talks about their brands, tracking mentions, sentiment, and performance across all major Answer Engines, then expanded as customers pushed it to operationalize that data. This launch introduces the AI Marketer, an agent that sits inside the platform with context on a brand's audience, offerings, and messaging, and executes tasks like drafting outreach, restaging content for AI visibility, joining customer calls, and returning action items afterward. It is powered by what the team calls the Profound Context Manager, a running synthesis of email threads, meetings, and brand assets that updates the agent's behavior when positioning shifts.
The launch is tied to a fresh round of capital. Profound has raised a $180M Series D co-led by Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins , following a rapid financing cadence that included a Khosla-led seed, a $20M Series A led by Kleiner Perkins, a $35M Series B led by Sequoia Capital, and a $96M Series C led by Lightspeed Venture Partners at a $1 billion valuation . The timing matters because AEO has moved from a niche SEO offshoot to a boardroom conversation as buyers increasingly research products inside answer engines rather than traditional search, and enterprise marketers now need tooling that can both measure AI visibility and act on it at the pace LLMs re-cite sources.
Profound was cofounded by James Cadwallader, a serial marketing entrepreneur, and Dylan Babbs, a former Uber software engineer, who met at South Park Commons in San Francisco. For founders, investors, and operators tracking the AI search stack, this launch is worth watching as a bet that the winning AEO tools will not stop at dashboards but will run the marketing work that used to require additional headcount.

The thread hook is solid but that first video cut is way too tight, you lose the product shot before my brain registers what I'm looking at. Give it two more frames of breathing room.

The voiceover pacing on the demo is doing a lot of heavy lifting, but you buried the actual reveal at the 22 second mark. Front-load the product, save the mission for the outro.

An AI Marketer trained on what consumers prompt sounds great until half those prompts are people asking ChatGPT to write their resignation letter. Whose signal are we actually optimizing for here?

Retention curves on a marketing tool tied to a channel that changes weekly is the interesting question. Do users stick around when the LLMs shuffle their ranking logic overnight?

Genuinely asking as someone new to AEO, how do you measure whether a citation actually drove a purchase versus just being noise in an answer? Attribution here seems really slippery.

Been prototyping something adjacent for 4 months, guess I'm shelving that folder tonight. Congrats on the raise, back to the whiteboard I go.

Curious what the actual workflow handoff looks like between the AI Marketer and a human team. Does it draft and wait, or does it just ship to production channels on its own?

One more thing worth adding: a competitive citation dashboard so marketers can see which brands are eating their share of voice inside answers. Would print money.
