Polygres is a managed PostgreSQL service that consolidates relational records, graph relationships, vector embeddings, and full-text search into a single project so AI applications can retrieve context from operational data without maintaining separate systems. It is aimed at teams building SaaS search, recommendations, customer-support investigation, and retrieval-augmented agent workflows on top of PostgreSQL, keeping relational facts, graph connections, and semantic search in one Postgres-native platform instead of relying on brittle ETL pipelines. The company is run by Dale and Dalton, the founders of Polygres , and Dale (@daleverett) lists the company as backed by @fdotinc .
This launch introduces Polygres MCP, a Model Context Protocol server that lets AI clients like Claude, Cursor, and Codex connect to a Polygres workspace through browser sign-in rather than raw API keys. Users can scope access to a single project or every project they belong to, decide whether the client is read-only or allowed to make changes, and toggle individual surfaces such as databases, imports, AI search, graph, and debugging. Under the hood the server exposes 91 tools, but the client only sees the subset that matches the user's permissions and current project, and Polygres pauses to confirm the exact action before anything consequential runs.
Shipping alongside MCP is Agent Skills 0.6.0, which extends Codex support and packages five Polygres skills covering setup, sync, write, memory, and graph retrieval. For founders and engineering teams already using Polygres as their retrieval layer, the launch matters because it turns the platform into something an AI agent can operate directly with the same access model a human teammate would have, rather than requiring custom glue code for every client.

Opening a launch by explaining the Monster can mic is the most 2024 founder energy I've seen this week. Somehow it works.

Confirmation before important changes is the feature nobody demos but everybody needs after their first agent goes rogue at 2am.

Browser sign-in for MCP is smart, but the real test is whether procurement will accept it without a 40 page questionnaire. SOC2 status?

How small was the team that shipped the MCP layer? Asking because I want to feel bad about my own velocity.

The cut where you go from sleepy to not-sleepy is the whole hook. Whoever edited that earned their coffee.

Been watching Dale build this since the early sketches. The MCP move was inevitable and the timing is chef's kiss.

Following up for a piece I'm writing on MCP adoption in the wild. Any chance you can share what kinds of clients are already connecting?

Every AI infra launch this month claims to feel like extended context. At some point one of you is going to have to define what that actually means.

Granular permissions is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence. Row level? Field level? Or vibes-based?

Building something adjacent in the retrieval space and honestly the scoped project access framing is really clean. Stealing that language, sorry not sorry.

We shipped essentially this internally at a big co in 2019 and it never left the wiki. Glad someone is actually putting it in front of users.

The tweet buries the actual product under a mic joke. Cute for engagement, brutal for anyone scrolling fast enough to miss line two.

Scoped access with confirmation flows honestly maps beautifully to onchain permissioned actions. Just saying, the primitive is right there.
