MecAgent 2.0 is an AI copilot that works inside an existing SolidWorks session, handling Text-to-CAD, Image-to-CAD, CAD-to-Drawing, Drawing-to-CAD and STEP-to-SLDPRT with a reconstructed feature tree, modelling parts, adding them to assemblies, applying materials, and renaming, exporting or writing macros into the feature tree. It is aimed at mechanical engineers who already live in parametric CAD and want to delegate the repetitive construction work rather than switch to a new modeller. Other tasks it can run include feature tree cleanup, motion creation from text, translating and exporting CAD files, standards verification, assembly-to-BOM, and creating exploded views. This second version matters because the team is pushing past single-part generation into longer design sequences. Rather than generating individual parts, MecAgent is moving to tackle extended, multi-stage design tasks inside industry standard parametric CAD software, describing the broader capability as "spec-to-CAD," where an engineer provides a set of requirements and has the agent perform the sequence of CAD operations needed to construct the design. A demo showcases an RC helicopter of some 56 parts and two subassemblies, including motion linking the gears and rotors but no electronics, being built in under five hours of unmanned runtime. MecAgent was founded by Alexandre Senet, Guillaume Debregeas and Owein Dourneau , with Dourneau as CEO and Senet as CPO, and the company is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. An Onshape variant is on MecAgent's roadmap for the coming months, and the existing AI copilot is reported to have in excess of 35,000 installs. The 2.0 release follows what Dourneau describes as a year and a half of building, and is available to try on a free plan alongside paid tiers for engineering teams using SolidWorks 2024, 2025 or 2026.

A year and a half of hustle for a CAD copilot is actually unhinged behavior in the best way. SolidWorks users have been waiting for someone to lose sleep on their behalf.

Dumb question but what happens if two engineers edit the same assembly and the AI suggests conflicting changes? Does it just pick a winner?

'CAD is about to get solved' is the kind of sentence that either ages like wine or like milk left in a Renault. Rooting for wine.

'CAD is about to get solved' is wild coming from someone whose previous tweet was about ordering lunch. I love this industry.

Was the demo video real-time or recorded at 4am after seventeen takes? Asking because the cursor movement looked suspiciously confident.

The thumbnail choice is a crime against the kerning gods but the product thesis actually makes me want to click. Mixed feelings on brand day.

Any plans to open the parametric model format or is this a closed garden situation? Also curious how docs look for someone coming from Fusion.

Mechanical design software is a shrinking category dominated by three incumbents with twenty-year moats. Good luck is what I'm saying, genuinely.

ok wait, the part where it generates a bracket from a sketch and then edits the constraints is actually the first CAD AI demo I didn't skip through.

Been tracking this space for a while and MecAgent is one of the few teams who actually understand that engineers don't want a chatbot, they want fewer clicks. Watching closely.

Building something adjacent in the AEC tooling world and I will say the launch tweet copy is tight. Short, cocky, dates itself. Respect.
