Laminar is an open-source observability platform for AI agents, and this launch introduces flow-1, a model built specifically to read through agent traces and pinpoint where runs went wrong. It is aimed at teams shipping agents into production workflows where a single run can contain hundreds of model calls and tool invocations, making manual review impractical. flow-1 is a new model for understanding agent traces, trained with reinforcement learning to identify hard-to-spot failures and explain why they happened.
The pitch is cost. On a benchmark of 523 difficult agent traces across coding, legal, customer support, CRM and more, flow-1 surpasses GPT-6-sol with high reasoning in failure detection quality, with Sol flagging more traces and making it noisier while flow-1 digs into the evidence to surface the failures that matter. At $0.05 per million input tokens and $0.30 per million output, flow-1 can process 23x as many traces per dollar as GPT-6-sol at comparable quality, and runs about 25% cheaper than GPT-6-luna with better detection and explanations. It runs inside Laminar's Signals agent, which can grep across spans, inspect them in full, and return structured JSON matching a user-defined schema, so findings drop straight into existing pipelines.
The launch matters because sampling has been the default compromise in agent observability, and flow-1 is priced to let teams analyze every production trace continuously rather than a slice. Laminar was founded in 2024 by Robert Kim and Din Mailibay , went through Y Combinator, and raised a $3M seed led by Atlantic with participation from Y Combinator, AAL.vc, and angels including Ben Sigelman, co-creator of OpenTelemetry, and Ant Wilson, CTO of Supabase . Robert, who posted the launch, is co-founder and CEO.

flow-1 is a cute name until you have flow-2, flow-1-mini, flow-1-pro-max-ultra and nobody on the team remembers which one is in prod.

The chart cutting at exactly the point where your model wins is a classic move. Respect the craft.

Is the demo video a real trace or a staged one? Would love to see it chew through a messy LangGraph run live, not a polished happy path.

silly question but how does flow-1 know an error is an error when the agent itself thought it was fine? who grades the grader?

ok wait, a model whose entire job is to judge other models is extremely my kind of chaos. shipping this to our eval pipeline tonight.

25% cheaper than luna is fine but what is the per-trace cost at a million runs a day. the tweet skips the part my CFO actually cares about.

the voiceover on the launch vid sounds like someone whispered the script into an airpod on a train. somehow it works.

weights open? recipe open? or is this another 'open to inspect our API' situation. docs link also 404s on mobile fyi.

we had something like this at my old job in 2019, we called it 'the log reader' and it was a regex. feels full circle.

self-hosted option or we can't touch it. half our traces have PII and legal will physically take my laptop away.

hot take: 'trace intelligence' is a benchmark you invented three weeks ago and I respect the hustle enormously.

contrarian take: the market for 'monitoring agents' assumes people are running agents in prod. are they though.

fifth agent observability launch i've seen this month. the thumbnails are starting to blur together, all teal gradients and one glowing node.

the thread structure is clean, hook then chart then CTA. somebody on the team has been studying the tape.
