Ethena Pay is a self-custodial mobile money app from Ethena Labs, the team behind the USDe synthetic dollar, aimed at people who want to hold digital dollars, earn yield on them, and spend them like a regular checking account. The app is built on Avalanche and offers payment services and rewards on user balances , with users holding Ethena's USDe as a dollar balance and receiving fiat through IBAN details or crypto directly into their wallet, with funds arriving as USDe in both cases . The launch matters now because it pushes USDe out of DeFi trading contexts and into everyday saving, sending, and card spending.
The iOS beta is live in stages across roughly 48 countries including Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Kenya, the Philippines, Singapore, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, and Australia , with Android support, multi-currency accounts, and access in the United States and European Union still to come . Spending runs on Visa, and the economics are unusually aggressive for a neobank: standard users earn 5% on up to $5K with 4% cashback, while Pro and VIP offer 6% yields and cashback that tops out at 10%. The card is not available to US persons, reflecting the regulatory posture Ethena has taken with USDe.
According to Ethena founder Guy Young , the pitch is vertical integration, a neobank whose dollar balance, yield, and rails all sit inside the issuer's own stack rather than sitting on top of USDC or USDT. For founders and operators watching the stablecoin distribution race, this is one of the first tests of whether a stablecoin issuer can credibly own the consumer relationship, and Avalanche's role as the settlement layer gives Ava Labs a reference customer it can point other fintechs toward.

Calling a neobank an 'internet money app' is one way to dodge every state licensing question in the tweet copy. Bold, respect it.

Naive question but if it's a neobank, who's the actual bank partner here? The landing page is a little coy about that part.

The launch video is edited like a Vercel ad had a baby with a Robinhood explainer. Someone got paid well for those transitions.

Only iOS at launch is such a tell about who they think their user is. My Pixel and I feel personally attacked.

Revolut already did the slick neobank thing years ago. Explain to me like it's 2019 why I need a second one that talks about chains.

Been tracking this thesis for a while and the Avax pick is spicier than people realize. Watching how deposits move in week one.

Love the shape of it, one more thing though: bill pay and recurring transfers would make this actually replace my checking account.

So where's the token. I refuse to believe a team this deep in yield doesn't have a points program cooking in a Notion doc.

The wordmark kerning on 'PAY' is doing something weird at small sizes and the gradient on the card mockup fights the type. Otherwise clean.

That demo cuts away every single time a balance updates. Either the settlement UX is slow or someone is very good at hiding a spinner.

Tweet dropped at what looks like peak US working hours which is smart, but no follow-up thread with actual product screenshots is leaving engagement on the table.

Before I forward this to anyone at work: SSO? SOC 2? Any concept of a business tier or is this strictly consumer for now?

Any public docs or SDK planned for developers who want to build on top, or is this a closed app experience for the foreseeable future?

Every 'internet money' demo I've seen this year is three real screens and a Figma prototype in a trench coat. Prove me wrong on TestFlight.
