About the launch
Baba assigns each Medicare or Medicaid member, and the family members who usually hold their care together, a dedicated team of advocates and licensed therapists who book specialist visits, work insurance appeals, arrange transportation and equipment, and follow up after a hospital stay. AI agents handle forms, hold times, and follow-ups that can stretch for weeks, while clinicians remain responsible for clinical decisions. The service is covered by Medicare and Medicare Advantage, so most patients pay nothing out of pocket, and it runs by phone and text in every state. The timing of this raise tracks real demand: more than 10,000 patients and families have already used Baba, and more than 100,000 are on a waitlist. The $40 million Series A, announced October 20, 2026, is led by FirstMark Capital, with CVS Health Ventures and Valtruis joining returning investors General Catalyst, Genius Ventures, and Ground Up Ventures. Founder and CEO Connor Sweeney started the New York company after his grandmother’s stroke left his grandfather, the relative he calls Baba, to manage appointments, coverage rules, and recovery on his own. In June, CMS selected Baba for the ACCESS Model across all four clinical tracks, a ten-year test of technology-supported chronic care that pays on measured outcomes rather than the volume of services. The capital is meant to grow clinical teams, expand health plan partnerships, and move further into value-based contracts, alongside applied research such as BabaBench, a benchmark for whether AI agents can finish long-horizon advocacy work like billing appeals and prior authorizations without privacy violations. Baba says it has reached fewer than 1 percent of the nearly 70 million Americans on Medicare, and that hiring, not demand or capital, is now the constraint.
