American Turbines is a San Francisco company emerging from stealth with a line of compact, mass manufacturable gas turbines meant to be shipped, installed, and clustered together to add generation capacity on-site. Systems ship easily, install quickly, and operate in parallel, forming clustered generation that scales with demand, with units combining into larger systems, expanding capacity without complex buildouts or long lead times. The pitch is aimed at buyers who cannot wait years for grid interconnection or a conventional power plant, including data center operators, industrial sites, and remote or backup generation customers.
The launch matters now because electricity demand from AI compute, reshored manufacturing, and electrification is running ahead of what utility timelines can serve, and the incumbent gas turbine market is dominated by very large, slow to deliver units from a handful of OEMs. American Turbines is targeting the opposite end of that spectrum with smaller machines built for volume production, and its open roles for a director of aerodynamics, turbomachinery design and systems engineer, and additive manufacturing engineer hint at an in-house design plus 3D printed hot section approach rather than licensed hardware.
The company is founded by John McElhone, previously co-founder and CEO of CropSafe, who joined the Thiel Fellowship class of 2023 . This is his first hardware company after a software background in agriculture analytics, and the team is hiring across mechanical, aerodynamics, and additive manufacturing roles in San Francisco.

Naive question but what does 'rapid deployment' actually mean here in weeks? Because the last turbine project near my hometown took three years just for permitting.

ok wait, small modular gas turbines is the unlock nobody is talking about while everyone yells about fusion. Data centers are gonna eat these for breakfast.

We shipped a modular power concept internally at my old job in 2019 and it died in committee. Rooting hard for a startup to just build the thing.

The tweet copy going from 'compact gas turbines' straight to 'the next century of civilization' in two paragraphs is a bold gear shift. Loved it though.

Whoever cut the launch video understood assignment: shots of metal, no talking head, no lofi beats. Ten seconds in I knew what you built.

Curious about the capex per unit and who's financing the first deployments. Turbines are beautiful until the working capital math kicks in.

Serious question for enterprise: what's the interconnection story and are you selling units or PPAs? Procurement wants to know before legal does.

Tagline rewrite on the house: 'Gas turbines you can ship, not schedule.' You can venmo me.

'Abundant energy is the soil' is a great line but you're gonna get roasted for calling gas turbines soil. Worth it, keep the line.

Building adjacent in grid interconnect and honestly rooting for you. The bottleneck isn't generation anymore, but happy to see more MW chasing the queue.

Hot take: the word 'American' in the name is doing more go-to-market work than any deck slide could. Smart branding for this moment.

Compact gas turbines is a phrase I did not expect to see on my timeline today, and yet here we are, clicking.

Interesting. Would love to understand offtake commitments and gross margin per MW before I get too excited about the vibes.

The tweet hook is fine but you buried the actual product behind a philosophy statement. Lead with the turbine, philosophize in tweet three.

Every climate launch this month has been software wrappers on emissions dashboards. Actual hardware that spins is a nice change of pace.
