Poseidon Aerospace is building unmanned, fixed-wing cargo aircraft for regional freight and defense logistics. Its flagship plane, Egret, is a regional freighter slated to conduct its first uncrewed flight this year , with a payload capacity of 4,000 pounds , and a second airframe called Heron is also mid-build, designed to carry up to 2 tons of cargo ranging from food and medical supplies to ammunition and missiles . The company deliberately avoids the VTOL, electric, and hydrogen paths that dominate new aviation startups, instead using combustion propulsion and remote piloting to attack the unit economics of air freight. The $60M Series A led by TQ Ventures arrives at a specific inflection point for the company. In 2025, Poseidon successfully developed and flew Seagull, a quarter-scale demonstrator built to validate the aircraft's design and control architecture , and the new capital funds the push to a full-scale first flight of Egret before year end. The pitch to operators is grounded in a structural problem, namely that as fleets and pilots age, air cargo prices are increasingly constrained by maintenance costs and staffing shortages, with 50% of current U.S. pilots forced to retire due to old age by 2035 . Poseidon was founded in 2024 by CEO David Zagaynov, previously in Amazon logistics, and CTO Parker Tenney, previously at Lockheed Martin , and is based in Alameda, California . The Series A brings in JAWS, Hanwha, G Squared, Starship Ventures, and Drover Ventures alongside TQ, following an earlier $11M seed round led by Tamarack Global . For founders and operators watching the autonomous aviation space, this launch marks the shift from scale demonstrator to a credible attempt at flying a full-size uncrewed freighter under real payload and range assumptions.

Autonomous cargo planes is a wild sentence to just casually drop in a launch tweet. Where's the runway B-roll though, I need to see something take off before I believe anyone.

The tagline says logistics but the tweet says planes. Pick a lane before Maersk and Boeing both sue you for vibes.

Cargo per flight hour and turnaround economics are the only slides that matter here. Interesting.

"Building the future of air logistics with autonomous cargo planes designed and built from the ground up" reads like it was written by the CFO. Try: "Freight that flies itself." Done, invoice in the mail.

Curious how many humans are actually in the loop on day one. Autonomous is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence.

Who's hiring on the avionics side? I know a controls engineer leaving a big prime, allergic to PowerPoint, ships firmware for fun.

A candidate leaving a prime for a Series A cargo drone startup is either a genius or fleeing an HR investigation. Both are useful hires honestly.

Naive question but where are these planes actually allowed to fly without a pilot? Like, today, not in the pitch deck.
